Drupal - The all Important User Zero

A while back, I came across a "duplicate entry" problem that resulted
from a missing row in my drupal table 'users'.

It turns out that the users table is not the only one that requires
information on "user 0" (aka "anonymous"). This can be caused by
a bug (fixed in CVS) in user deletion. When an admin deletes a user,
accidentally goes back to the confirmation screen and confirms
deletion again, uid 0 is gone. The same happens when two admins
try to delete a user at the same time.

This week I came across another problem in which anonymous
users get a "you are not authorized ..." message when trying to
view any sort of content.

If you find yourself having trouble accessing content or using your
site as an anonymous user, or seeing N/A appearing in the place
of articles you can safely run the following queries against your
Drupal DB (4.6/4.7):

Microsoft new breaktrough imagine technolegy

Using photos of oft-snapped subjects (like Notre Dame) scraped from around the Web, Photosynth (based on Seadragon technology) creates breathtaking multidimensional spaces with zoom and navigation features that outstrip all expectation. Its architect, Blaise Aguera y Arcas, shows it off in this standing-ovation demo. Curious about that speck in corner? Dive into a freefall and watch as the speck becomes a gargoyle. With an unpleasant grimace. And an ant-sized chip in its lower left molar. "Perhaps the most amazing demo I've seen this year," wrote Ethan Zuckerman, after TED2007. Indeed, Photosynth might utterly transform the way we manipulate and experience digital images.

Putting a Spanner in Search Engines

The global launch of Vista last week could pose
a new challenge for advertisers. The program has an
inbuilt search facility that enables users to bypass
popular search engines. Advertisers could find
themselves being bypassed, but it’s expected that
Microsoft would also have a plan to allow advertisers
to access search terms in the program.

Which anti-spyware programs detect which cookies? The subject occasionally prompts discussion. (1, 2, 3) Several groups have surveyed users' views of cookies (Burst Media, InsightExpress, JupiterMedia, The Pew Internet & American Life Project, Ponemon / Revenue Science, and WebTrends), generally finding that 30%-60% of users say they distrust cookies

Better Than Google AdSense?

Or collecting $50 per sale from CBprosense? Sounds simple? Maybe it is simple. Nonetheless, there are details, and heaven and hell are in the details!

Serious Google Algorithm Problems

By Rodney Ringler

Have you noticed anything different with Google lately? The Webmaster community certainly has, and if recent talk on several search engine optimization (SEO) forums is an indicator, Webmasters are very frustrated. For approximately two years Google has introduced a series of algorithm and filter changes that have led to unpredictable search engine results, and many clean (non-spam) websites have been dropped from the rankings.

Blogging for Adsense Profit and Fun

When I first started out with AdSense, I had little money to spare on web hosting, and I knew nothing about how to get a site ranked in the search engines or to generate traffic. It took a lot of work, reading, experimenting and failure before I discovered great ways to build my AdSense business.

Program Review: Google AdSense

Google AdSense, Google's advertising program that lets
webmasters display ads from Google's extensive list of
advertisers, has taken the Internet by storm. Through this
successful program, unobtrusive text-based ads are served in
member sites, who then earn a commission every time someone
 clicks on the advertisers' links.

The Competition of Google Adsense

By Mark Daoust.

Contextual advertising has literally saved the Internet. With the advent of contextual ads, websites are able to focus once again on quality content, making the internet a resource for free information. It used to be that Google Adsense was the undisputed leader in contextual ads, but now that Yahoo Publisher Network has joined the mix, and MSN coming soon as well, the contextual ad market has never been more alive, and never more profitable for publishers.
